Brief of Founder

The founder of Jeevan Jyoti Charitable Foundation is Dr. Robina  N. Fredericks. Dr is an Alumni of Christian Medical Collage and Hospital, Ludhiana, Punjab and completed her Post Graduation in Anaesthesia in JJ Group of Hospitals Mumbai, as well as has Diploma in Acupuncture in G.T. Hospital Mumbai.  Having worked as Medical Advisor/Product Manager in Pharmaceuticals for over a period of 5 years moved on to work as Asst. Hospital Superintendent at the Corporate Hospital, Jaslok Hospital and Research Institute,  Mumbai. While in Jaslok, Dr. Robina was simultaneously working as a volunteer Doctor among the Warli Tribes in the Thane District in Mumbai, over the weekends. This Volunteering steered up a passion for the poor, needy, destitute and the ignored strata of society.  In 1994, Dr. Robina returned to her roots in Pune to take over her late mothers General/ObGyn practice. Her passion for the poor led her to work among the hutment and chawl dwellers as a Voluntary Medical Doctor. In 2001, Dr. Robina was challenged to work among the HIV affected people in the Red Light Area of Pune and this led her to work as a Voluntary Medical Doctor with Peoples Health Organisation, Budhwar Peth, Pune. The burning burden and affinity built while volunteering led her to start her own work in the area less tread upon by most people. The start-up was not easy and full of adversity and challenges which did not deter her from the vision and mission. Working with Commercial Sex Workers as a Doctor in a free Clinic for 3 years, she noticed that a bigger needs i.e. the children of the Commercial sex workers. These children were neglected and needed care and has a great hunger for food as their mothers earned measly sums. Seeing these children starve and living in an adverse condition led Dr. Robina to start Jeevan Jyoti Charitable Foundation (JJCF) in 2005, as a Balwadi and Day Care Center. JJCF ‘a sanctuary’ birthed to nourish, care and help these tender aged children and women of the red light area irrespective of caste, religion or creed receive their basic human rights. This zeal and passion is still strong until today even though Dr. Robina has gone through adverse health condition.
